The SCCM is changing its direction. Check out our new Mission
Statement! We’ll become the first car museum to tell the
“WHOLE STORY” of the car, from its inception to the
present and beyond. What do we mean?
The car evolved to become a necessity, created
the suburbs, changed the patterns of courtship, liberated women
and became the dominant force of the nation’s economy. That’s
a story most car museums seek to share. But there’s more.
The car brought with it: Billions of tons
of concrete and asphalt that have defaced our country, DUI associated
injuries and deaths, pollution, a court system clogged with lawsuits
and traffic citation administration and an increasing drain on the
natural resources of the world. Bleak thoughts, but there’s
more to the “WHOLE STORY”.
There are remedies and solutions to many
of the auto-related problems in our country. There are MANY things
we can do as citizens, voters, parents and drivers to combat negative
factors. To name just a couple: Expediting auto fuel cell technology
and discontinuing mercury pollution caused by melting scrapped cars
without removing mercury switches.
WHO BETTER TO TELL THE WHOLE STORY THAN
A CAR MUSEUM??? The SCCM has designated its largest room to becoming
the TIMELINE ROOM which will tell the story of the car from its
invention by Karl Benz in 1885 to the present and beyond. The TIMELINE
will tell of the evolution of the car, the dynamics of the major
players in car manufacturing, sociological and cultural impacts,
and environmental issues. The room will be populated with fascinating
auto artifacts relating to the timeline.
We will engage young and old alike in car-related history, issues
and solutions. Comprehensive multi-grade level student packets are
being constructed for our school tours based upon the TIMELINE research.
We are excited about the contribution we can make from an educational
perspective!
